Legislation has been introduced in the Michigan House of Representatives to create a “predictive scheduling” mandate on certain employers, including retail, hospitality and/or food services.
As a small business owner with over two decades of experience in the hospitality sector, I am strongly opposed to the proposed "predictive scheduling" legislation in Michigan's House of Representatives. This bill, HB 4035, while seemingly benign in its attempt to safeguard restaurant workers, imposes a rigid 14-day advanced scheduling requirement on employers, including those in retail, hospitality, and food services.
John, a lifelong Michigan resident, was born and raised in Rockford, where he also attended Rockford High School. He went on to graduate from Grand Valley State University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Business & Information Systems.
Following graduation, Wetzel joined the corporate world for a few years, including time with Alcoa Aluminum as an IT Systems Administrator. In need of a greater challenge, Wetzel ventured out and started his first small business.
Over the past 20 years, Pure POS, Inc. has become a cornerstone of the hospitality industry in the Greater Michigan Area, serving over 500 clients in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and even reaching as far as Florida. Their systems have been a game-changer for small businesses, helping them run smoother with top-notch technology and management solutions. Pure POS earned “POS Dealer of the Year” in 2007, and hasn’t looked back.
Wetzel plans to bring this knowledge, hard work, determination, and a common sense understanding of the Michigan business climate to Lansing as State Representative of District 84 in the upcoming election.
